Media

A small collection of youtube clips, predominantly from the films of my three favourite directors: Fassbinder, Mizoguchi and Ophuls. Each has an individual page set up for their respective videos as well as some brief commentary. Needless to say, each man’s output is infinitely more complex than my limited thoughts can articulate – but I hope that they can nonetheless act as some sort of introduction to the incomparable filmographies in question, not to mention a hasty attempt to explain my own undying enthusiasm towards them.

I’d love to do the same for my other favourite filmmakers (Godard, Tarkovsky, Buñuel, Chaplin, Bresson etc.), but unfortunately time poses severe restrictions at present.

Distant Voices, Still Lives, the film that inspired this blog in many respects, also has its own page which houses a trio of its finest sequences. (Worry not – those are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this gorgeous, profoundly moving achievement.)

Feel free to access the youtube channel directly if it makes for easier navigation.
